Thingspire participates in the Ministry of Science and ICT's public-private joint '3rd Digital Carbon Neutral Council'

The Ministry of Science and ICT (hereinafter referred to as 'MSIT') held the '3rd Digital Carbon Neutral Council' (hereinafter referred to as 'Council') with major ICT companies and related associations and institutions on the afternoon of the 11th.

The 'Digital Carbon Neutral Council' is a council formed to promote carbon neutrality in the digital sector by discussing with the industry ways to reduce carbon emissions in the digital industry and increase energy efficiency using digital technology, and by listening to companies' difficulties and reflecting them in policies. In this council, the 2050 Carbon Neutral Green Growth Committee (hereinafter referred to as the 'Tannok Committee') is focusing on achieving carbon neutrality nationally, such as by announcing the 'National Carbon Neutrality and Green Growth Basic Plan', and utilizing digital technology to achieve national carbon neutrality. We discussed ways to promote the realization of carbon neutrality.

Prior to the meeting, Minister of Science and ICT Lee Jong-ho visited KT Cloud's Internet Data Center (IDC) Mokdong 2 Center, Korea's first intelligent data center, and introduced data centers being promoted by the private sector, such as the 'AI IDC Operator', which automatically controls temperature and humidity within the center. We checked the status and effects of carbon neutrality in the sector.

After the site visit, we had time to discuss ways to promote carbon neutrality using digital technology and look at examples from the private sector.

First, the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Tannok Committee emphasized that it is important to increase energy efficiency by utilizing digital technology in order to increase response capabilities as regulations for realizing carbon neutrality in developed countries, such as the recent introduction of Europe's carbon border adjustment system, are being strengthened. In order to promote digital carbon neutrality across industries, carbon emission diagnosis, analysis, and reduction technologies using digital technologies such as AI and data will be developed and applied and spread mainly to energy-consuming industries, while digital transformation such as data centers and base stations will be implemented. Measures to reduce power consumption of rapidly growing digital infrastructure were presented and discussed with attendees.

Case studies of the development and application of carbon neutral technology in the private sector were presented, and 'Kevin Lab Co., Ltd.', a carbon neutral solution development company, collects and analyzes energy information in buildings in real time through artificial intelligence, big data, and Internet of Things (IoT) technology to provide energy efficiency. An example of applying the building energy management platform (L-BEMS) to improve usage efficiency was introduced, and 'KT Cloud' introduced a 'case of improving data center cooling efficiency by introducing a cooling system using external air' to attendees. drew a lot of attention from

Minister Lee Jong-ho said, “Digital is a core technology that contributes to carbon reduction through energy efficiency and improved utilization of renewable energy,” and “We must utilize digital technology to turn the rising trade barriers centered on carbon neutrality into an opportunity rather than a crisis.” Therefore, we will specify policy measures to promote carbon neutrality and submit them to the Carbon Neutral Green Growth Committee in September.”
